How Did I Become A Professional Organizer?

From an early age, I found comfort in order and structure. While other kids were busy playing, I was more focused on arranging and organizing my toys, ensuring everything was perfectly sorted by color, size, or category. I loved the feeling of creating a system where everything had its place. Looking back, it’s clear that my passion for organization started early—it was never just about tidiness, but about creating a sense of order and harmony even in play. That love for organization only grew as I got older, especially in a home filled with siblings. Having three sisters meant a bigger wardrobe to share, but it also came with the constant frustration of not being able to find what I needed when I needed it. Clothes would get mixed up, borrowed without a trace, or lost in the chaos of overflowing drawers. It taught me early on that organization isn’t just about having more—it’s about making what you have easy to access and enjoy.

These early experiences naturally led me to a career where organization played a key role. Before starting my journey as a professional organizer, I spent many years working as a nanny and doula. During that time, I had countless opportunities to implement organizational strategies that made daily life smoother and less stressful for families. From setting up toy rotations and creating functional art stations to helping moms design efficient nurseries, I found joy in creating systems that brought ease and order to busy households. Through these experiences, I learned that support must be tailored to each individual and that flexibility is key to being a reliable and trusted presence for families. I developed patience in facilitating communication, especially in moments of misunderstanding, and became well-versed in anticipating needs, adapting to unexpected situations, and finding creative solutions. Organization, for me, has always been about more than just structure—it’s about bringing ease, clarity, and peace to the spaces and lives of those I support.

Where do you live? Where did you grow up? Why are you there or aren’t you there now? I was born and raised in Knoxville, TN. For me, it will always be home, but I said goodbye in 2024, to move on to new opportunities. My husband is an Aerospace Engineer and had to relocate to Tullahoma, TN, for his job. I miss my home town, but living here makes me appreciate the slower parts of life and I will never get tired of exploring the beautiful rivers and waterfalls of middle TN

What do you like to do when you aren’t working? I live with my husband and we have two tortoises named Etta-May and Dolly. Etta-May is a Russian or Horsefeilds Tortoise (Testudo horsfieldii). I had the opportunity to rescue her back in 2020. She was and continues to be a dream come true for me. I had dreamed of having a tortoise since I was 4 years old and finally had the means to make that dream come true. In 2022, I rescued Dolly. She is a Hermann’s Tortoise (Testudo hermanni). They are one of my greatest joys! During the warmer summer months, they love spending days outside exploring and getting into trouble. I take them on walks together in their stroller and bring them with me to the farmer’s market to shop for our groceries. If the temperature is warm and the sun is shining, I like to bring them wherever I go, that pets are allowed. They have Halloween costumes and crocheted Christmas sweaters. Etta-May is full of spice and attitude, and Dolly is all about cuddles and adventure. I will always want to educate people about them and their proper husbandry. Plus, I love to show off their photos and videos and dote on them at any chance I get! When I am not working, I love spending time in nature. I pin insects, so spending time outdoors is a great way to source specimens ethically. I am also interested in taxidermy, so I have been spending some of my free time researching and reading books about various topics related to the subject. I love to create. I delight in coming up with art concepts and designs that I turn into tattoos for myself and others. I adore all things related to organizing and interior design. I enjoy designing rings (including my own engagement and wedding rings). I would also love to take a silversmithing course to begin making my own jewelry. I love slow fashion, so I like to spend time researching companies and finding sustainable brands. I am a big thrifter and will always tell someone where I got my clothes or furniture if given the chance. I am learning to sew and knit so I can also make my own clothes. I am also learning how to become more sustainable and self-sufficient in other parts of my life by doing things like gardening, preserving food, and working with the land's natural resources.

Do you volunteer anywhere, why? I volunteered at a local church youth group before I moved out of Knoxville. I grew up going to the Wednesday night services and know how impactful it was for me to have a safe space to go to and learn and confide in people who will listen. Many kids have difficult home lives with little support or encouragement, so it is so meaningful to give back to a community that helped me grow. This is also where I made lifelong friends and met my husband! Admittedly I am not currently volunteering as I am still trying to find my place in my new community.
